It all started with this idea…

Once upon a time, not so many years ago, I was sitting in a cubicle in a big fancy office building in Boston.  And then my whole life changed.

At the time I thought I was at the top of my career. I had an amazing job as a financial analyst in a billion dollar firm.  It took me 10 years to climb to this particular rung on the corporate ladder. And then I saw a level of corporate corruption that would change my world. I became a whistleblower and left corporate America forever.

This was completely new ground for me and I was terrified. But something inside me caused me to take life by the horns and tackle the terrifying unknown, head on.   I suddenly got this idea… what if I could use all my corporate knowledge and all of my expensive higher education to help PEOPLE instead of just helping wall street?

I had spent lots of time in board room meetings where decisions were made behind closed doors that affected the lives of thousands of people. People who’s voices were never heard. I wanted to see if I could help change this.  So I sent out a call on my blog asking people to give their suggestions on how we would fix the problems in our world.  I received over 300 essays from 37 countries!  But these were more than just ideas, they were projects that people had been working on for decades.

And from this, The Fix the World Organization was born!

At first, Fix the World (FTW) consisted of a small group of volunteers. We all met online through our love for the FTW project. In our first year we wrote a book, made a documentary movie, and traveled together holding community workshops along the way.

Of course some of the people in my life that had known me from my corporate days thought I was crazy for giving up my desk job in exchange for the unpredictable.   What I discovered was a whole new world of putting people first and discovering solutions together.  And its waaaaaaaaay better than corporate life!

It’s been an amazing journey so far on this mission to “Fix the World”.  I’m never going back!  While we had a someone scattered start, our little organization of volunteers has grown into a company with a humanitarian technology lab, a community center for the poor in Morocco and so much more.
What started with an idea, has turned into a garden that produces great ideas faster than we can harvest them.  This is only the beginning. Next time I’ll write more to tell you more about where FTW is today. But in the meantime, I thought you’d enjoy this short video I made to tell you more about our unique project.
