The UN has declared Global Water Bankruptcy, a permanent condition where “normal is gone.” Your water rights, private wells, irrigation districts, and even rainwater are being restructured and taken into receivership; global governance & surveillance of water is required.

They want real-time surveillance of every drop, enforceable limits, equity-based redistribution, and tokenization through Goldman Sachs so corporations can buy water credits.

Smart water meters with remote shut-off valves are rolling out now. They can automatically shut off your water after just 50 liters (13 gallons) per day … or any arbitrary amount they decide.

In Colorado, smart meters are already detecting and fining people for watering on the “wrong day.” Munich is hitting gardeners with €50,000 fines. Ireland and France have “garden hose bans.”

This is the UN’s “Global Water Bankruptcy” in action: enforced limits coming straight for victory gardens as the technocracy seizes control over food, water, and energy in their staged “Poly-Crisis.”

After more than a year of threats, New Jersey American Water sent a technician, accompanied by two police officers, to shut off a woman’s water because she wouldn’t allow the company to install a smart water meter due to health concerns. New Jersey has no regulation requiring residents to accept smart meters.

A New Jersey water company shut off a woman’s water for six days after she refused a smart meter due to health concerns, even though the state has no regulation requiring residents to accept smart meters.

In an exclusive interview with The Defender, Alla Goldman described how New Jersey American Water (NJAW) employees “harassed” her and her husband for over a year, threatening to shut off her water if she refused to let them install a smart water meter.

On March 5, the water company made good on its threats by sending a technician — escorted by two police officers — to her home to shut off her water.

For six days, Goldman, who was sick with the flu, and her husband went without water at their home. Goldman took shelter in a hotel and bought gallons of drinking water.

“I want to sue them for their literal threats,” Goldman said.

While staying at a hotel, Goldman filed a complaint with the state’s Board of Public Utilities (BPU) about the water company’s action.

The BPU informed her that the water company had no legal basis for shutting off her water because there is no BPU regulation requiring people to accept smart meter upgrades.

Goldman said, “A BPU supervisor told me that if we do not want a smart meter, we do not have to have one.”

When the BPU informed the water company of Goldman’s complaint, the company changed its tune by offering to restore services and install an analog meter that would not emit wireless radiation.

‘Few people know that water companies do the same thing’

Goldman, who shared records with The Defender to corroborate her account, said she now wants to raise awareness about how water companies, such as NJAW, may try to unlawfully force people to accept smart meters.

Many people know that electric companies commonly pressure residents to accept smart meters.

For instance, despite freezing temperatures and with little to no warning, Dominion Energy Virginia in December 2022 showed up at the homes of more than half a dozen families in Virginia and shut off their power because they refused to have smart meters installed.

“But very few people know that water companies do the same thing,” Goldman said.

When Goldman posted on Facebook about her experience, the post garnered over 1,000 views within a week. “People were thanking me,” she said. They had no idea that water companies in the U.S. would do such a thing. “People are so shocked,” she added.

Water company shuts off water after saying it wouldn’t

Goldman has been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. Her condition worsens when she is exposed to the radiofrequency (RF) radiation emitted by smart meters.

After NJAW notified Goldman via a letter sent Jan. 29, 2025, of their plan to upgrade her water meter, she repeatedly told NJAW she couldn’t accept a smart meter due to her health condition.

Plus, the meter she had was only five years old and worked fine, she told them.

Still, NJAW told her the smart meter upgrade was mandatory and that they would cut off service if she refused it.

The water company avoided saying that she was “legally” required to get the smart meter and instead repeatedly said it was mandatory, with no option to opt out.

A smart meter, or AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) meter, is more convenient for the utility companies because it allows them to review clients’ usage data without sending a technician to the home, Goldman said. Her old meter, which used AMR (automated meter reading) technology, required a technician to walk or drive by to read it.

On Feb. 20, 2025, Goldman called NJAW’s local office and spoke with NJAW Supervisor Anthony Ingato. She said he “literally yelled at me and threatened” to shut off their water if they failed to comply with the smart meter upgrade.

Over the following months, Goldman said she was “bombarded with continued threats and harassment via mail, email, texts and phone calls” from NJAW’s local office and its smart meter contractor, MeterTek Utility Services.

Goldman said an NJAW customer service representative told her that MeterTek, being merely a contractor, was not authorized to contact customers directly like that.

On Jan. 6, MeterTek posted a notice on Goldman’s door stating that the water would be shut off within 24 hours for failure to provide access to the meter so their technician could install a smart meter.

Goldman immediately called NJAW and reiterated her concern about how the smart meter would affect her health. She reminded them she would not consent to the upgrade but was willing to pay an opt-out fee.

An NJAW representative told her “not to worry,” and that all previous orders for meter replacement had been canceled. The representative reassured her that her water would not be shut off.

However, less than two months later, on March 2, an NJAW technician showed up at Goldman’s front door. He said he was under direct orders from his supervisor to replace the meter. The technician told Goldman he would shut off the water if they refused.

When Goldman showed him documentation from their NJAW account showing that all previous replacement orders were canceled, the technician took a picture and sent it to his boss.

The technician also called Ingato so Goldman could speak with him. According to Goldman, “Ingato just kept threatening us with the water shut-off.”

The technician suggested that Goldman call the main NJAW office to find out the status of their request to keep their meter. “We did so and were assured that our service would not be shut off,” Goldman said.

However, on March 5, the same technician returned to Goldman’s home — this time accompanied by two police officers — and shut off their water service.

“Imagine our shock and disbelief to find two police officers at the door,” she said. “One of them informed us that their presence was specifically requested by the NJAW local office to keep their technician safe.”

NJAW did not restore Goldman’s water service until March 10, after the BPU intervened on Goldman’s behalf.

Goldman said she finds it ironic that NJAW’s official motto is, “We keep life flowing.”

“They intentionally cut off our life because water is life,” she said.

Goldman wants to sue, citing ‘emotional distress’

Although Goldman now has water service and an analog meter, she’s considering pressing charges for the damages she and her husband suffered, including emotional distress.

Goldman sees a psychotherapist who has documented the ongoing harm NJAW’s actions caused Goldman over the last year and a half.

The Defender asked New Jersey’s BPU if and how it proactively informs residents of their right to refuse a smart meter. The BPU did not respond by deadline.

When asked if NJAW allows water customers to opt out of a smart meter, an NJAW representative told The Defender:

“Though New Jersey American Water does not have a formal opt-out program for smart meter installations, the company works directly with customers who wish to explore alternative options on a case-by-case basis.”

The Defender asked NJAW why one of its technicians shut off Goldman’s water on March 5 for refusing a smart meter. However, NJAW did not respond by deadline.

According to a report from KNAU Arizona Public Radio, officials in Coconino County issued a boil-water advisory Wednesday for the Doney Park community following a precautionary power shutdown by Arizona Public Service (APS) amid heightened wildfire risks.

The advisory affects residents in an area reliant on the Doney Park Water system, where power loss triggered a drop in water pressure. Authorities urged people to use bottled water for drinking and cooking until further notice. General Manager Marc Twidwell of Doney Park Water confirmed the scope of the disruption.

Twidwell told KNAU the advisory impacted nearly 9,500 people. He explained that during APS’s Public Safety Power Shutoff, “pressure levels dropped below 20 psi for about four hours in four of their sixteen water zones.” That low pressure created a risk of non-potable water entering the system.

Crews responded aggressively on Thursday, flushing lines with chlorine and initiating a full 24-hour bacteria test. Twidwell indicated the advisory could potentially lift as early as Friday, depending on test results.

The water district lacks backup generators to sustain adequate pressure during outages and instead depends on elevated storage tanks for system pressure.

APS cut power for nearly 10 hours to roughly 6,000 customers in rural areas around Flagstaff on Wednesday, citing strong winds that threatened to spark wildfires by downing power lines.

This incident highlights vulnerabilities in water infrastructure during wildfire-driven shutoffs. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow updates from local water officials.

The Gulf’s trillion-dollar race to become an artificial-intelligence superpower faces the region’s biggest challenge: water.

Data centers powering AI across the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are consuming water at an alarming rate, with projections showing the region will need 426 billion liters annually by 2030. This surge threatens to turn water scarcity into a critical bottleneck for tech ambitions in one of the world’s most water-stressed regions.

The World Resources Institute ranks the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar among the most water-stressed countries on Earth, with daily per capita consumption exceeding 500 liters — almost three times the European average. The countries pledged $2 trillion of deals during U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East tour in May this year.

The UAE’s new 1-gigawatt Stargate AI campus, backed by OpenAI and Abu Dhabi’s G42, is only the beginning of a massive infrastructure build-out across the region. Saudi Arabia has separately announced plans for 2,200 megawatts of new data center capacity, attracting tech giants including Google, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services to establish regional hubs.

While these investments promise to transform the Gulf into a digital gateway linking Europe, Asia, and Africa, they come with an environmental cost that could undermine the very growth they seek to enable. The water demands of AI-intensive data centers may force governments to choose between their climate commitments and their technological ambitions.

“The issue of excessive water consumption for cooling in data centers is becoming a significant environmental concern,” Anita Nouri, CEO of Green Growth Planning Consultancy, a Dubai-based sustainability consulting company, told Rest of World. “Traditional cooling systems often rely heavily on large volumes of clean water, placing additional stress on already limited freshwater resources, particularly in water-scarce regions.”

The numbers paint a stark picture of the challenge ahead. Water consumption across data centers in the Middle East and Africa will increase to more than 426 billion liters by the end of the decade from 119 billion liters in 2025, according to research firm Mordor Intelligence. The UAE alone is expected to use 61 billion liters annually by 2030.

To put this in perspective, a single 1-megawatt data center consumes as much as 25.5 million liters of water annually. That’s enough to meet the daily water needs of 300,000 people, making each facility equivalent to the water demands of a small city.

The Gulf’s extreme summer temperatures compound the problem, forcing data centers to rely heavily on evaporation-based cooling systems. GPT-3, OpenAI’s language model that powers ChatGPT, consumes about 500 milliliters of water per 10–50 responses, according to academic research platform arXiv.

“Gulf summers are extreme and water is scarce,” technology analyst and author George Chanos told Rest of World. “Many experts believe that water shortages could limit data center capacity as demand grows.”

The region’s heavy reliance on desalination adds another layer of complexity. Saudi Arabia operates two of the world’s largest desalination plants, providing more than a million cubic meters of water daily, but these oil and gas-powered facilities consume copious levels of energy.

This creates a troubling contradiction for countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which have pledged to lead on both climate action and AI development.

Some operators are experimenting with alternatives, although adoption remains limited across the Gulf. Khazna Data Center in the UAE is piloting treated sewage effluent for cooling, while global operator Equinix uses lake water and geothermal systems in Toronto to reduce consumption.

“We are exploring treated sewage effluent water reuse at some of our facilities,” Johan Nilerud, Khazna’s chief strategy officer, told Rest of World.

Other emerging solutions include closed-loop systems that recycle water and air-cooled setups that rely on outside air instead of evaporation.

Western cloud providers have made ambitious sustainability pledges, with Google planning 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030 and Microsoft aiming for carbon negativity. Regional implementation, however, has been inconsistent, with few companies disclosing detailed data on water or energy usage for their Gulf operations.

While 90% of Gulf organizations increased sustainability investments post-Covid-19, fewer than 25% track water-specific metrics, according to a report by global real estate consultancy Knight Frank. This lack of transparency makes it difficult to assess the true environmental impact of the region’s digital expansion.

Despite mounting challenges, regional governments remain undeterred in their AI ambitions. Kuwait recently joined a $100 billion AI infrastructure partnership with MGX and Microsoft, even though the country depends almost entirely on desalination for its water supply.

Qatar, which hosts Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, is exploring floating solar platforms to power integrated water-energy systems. Oman and Bahrain are continuing to invest in digital infrastructure despite their heavy reliance on non-renewable groundwater.

Industry analysts point to a troubling timeline where water demand could outpace supply within the decade. According to projections by regional water management authorities, the Gulf’s current water infrastructure cannot support the planned expansion of AI data centers without significant upgrades or alternative cooling technologies.

“Hot and arid regions like the Gulf are vulnerable,” Chanos said. “Water demand from AI could become a huge issue by 2027 — AI data centers may use more water than entire countries like Denmark, and more energy than countries like France.”

Regional energy grids face additional strain as desalination plants ramp up production to meet growing data center demands. The International Energy Agency estimates that Gulf states may need to double their electricity generation capacity by 2030 to support both AI infrastructure and the desalination required to cool it.

Financial markets are beginning to price in these environmental risks, with some institutional investors demanding detailed water usage disclosures before committing to Gulf tech projects. ESG-focused funds — based on environmental, social, and governmental factors — control trillions in assets, and increasingly view water sustainability as a key metric for emerging market investments.

“We need to innovate and adopt technologies that reduce water dependency,” Nouri said.

The urgency has prompted some Gulf states to fast-track research into atmospheric water generation and advanced heat pump systems.

Early pilot projects show promise but remain expensive and unproven at scale. The UAE’s Masdar Institute is testing solar-powered atmospheric water generators that extract moisture from desert air, while Saudi Arabia’s Neom project incorporates advanced cooling technologies into its smart city blueprint.

Some industry experts warn that water constraints could force operators toward colder, more water-rich locations, potentially undermining the region’s strategic positioning as a global AI hub.

Yet the stakes are too high for regional governments to abandon their ambitions without a fight. The AI industry represents a multitrillion-dollar opportunity to diversify Gulf economies away from oil dependence, making water solutions a matter of national economic security.

Technology companies are responding with increased investment in regional R&D centers focused on sustainable cooling solutions. Microsoft has announced plans for a $1 billion research facility in Abu Dhabi dedicated to developing water-efficient AI infrastructure, while Google is partnering with local universities on next-generation cooling technologies.

“This is the land of innovation and has the will to be first and best,” Nouri said. “This region will find a way to make it happen.”

The following is paraphrased from an interview Swiss Info conducted with Sasha Luccioni, a researcher specialising in the ecological footprint of AI, ahead of the AI for Good Summit held from 7 to 11 July in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Summit is the UN’s leading event on AI. It was organised by the International Telecommunication Union (“ITU”) in partnership with over 40 other UN agencies and co-convened with the Government of Switzerland.

Related: Organisations that make up the UN World Government System

At the Summit, Luccioni spoke about the ecological footprint of AI and the need for greater awareness and transparency about the environmental costs of this technology. At the time of writing, her speech had not been uploaded onto the Summit’s YouTube channel.

Unfortunately, Luccioni supports the manufactured climate change crisis narrative. Titled ‘AI and climate change: Balancing innovation and sustainability’, the short description of her talk states that she “will discuss how to harness AI’s immense potential for helping fight the climate crisis while keeping its environmental impacts in mind.” The reality is, regardless of personal beliefs, if you want to speak at UN-organised events, you will have to conform to the UN-established agenda; it is the UN that frames the discussion.

In the following, we have chosen to omit Luccioni’s comments promoting the nefarious climate change agenda. You can read Swiss Info’s write-up of the interview with Luccioni HERE.

AI Giants Accused of Hiding Environmental Footprint

The recent boom in artificial intelligence (AI) has significant environmental costs that are largely hidden, with 84% of requests to conversational robots in May 2025 being processed by models whose environmental footprint remains opaque, including OpenAI, according to a study by researcher Sasha Luccioni.

Luccioni, a computer scientist and climate manager at Hugging Face, warns that the ecological and ethical abuses of AI technology are evolving faster than our ability to grasp its consequences, and with increasing opacity, highlighting the disconnect between the interfaces we use and the hardware reality of the servers that run them.

The increasing use of AI in various applications, such as voice assistants, smart fridges and personalised advertising, is fuelling a rebound effect known as the Jevons paradox, where even though AI is becoming more efficient, its energy consumption is increasing because it’s now used everywhere.

Generative AI, which is capable of generating text, images or music from machine learning models like ChatGPT, consumes 20 to 30 times more energy than traditional AI to answer a factual question, according to a study conducted by Luccioni in 2024.

And in just four months, the number of weekly users of ChatGPT doubled to 800 million.

The Growing Energy Consumption of AI

The power consumption of data centres, which are essential to the operation of AI and “the cloud,” grew by 12% a year between 2017 and 2023, four times faster than global electricity demand, according to a recent report by ITU.

The International Energy Agency predicts that the energy consumption of AI could double by 2030 to reach 945 TWh, surpassing the energy consumption of Japan and Switzerland. This unbridled growth in energy requirements is outstripping the deployment capacity of “renewable” energies, such as wind and solar, and is being largely powered by “non-renewable” energy sources, such as gas and coal, Luccioni warned.

According to Luccioni, the rapid development of AI is resulting in the revival of gas and coal-fired power stations to supply data centres. In Ireland, the electricity network is reaching its limits because of AI’s expansion. In the United States, Elon Musk’s centre in Memphis is causing controversy and President Donald Trump signed decrees in April aimed at reviving coal mining, citing the rise of AI.

Ecological Footprint of AI

The ecological footprint of AI extends beyond energy consumption. The growth of generative AI models also requires large quantities of critical metals and water, leading to the emergence of new mines and the generation of significant amounts of electronic waste, as so few electronic components are recycled.

A study published last year estimated that generative AI could produce 2.5 million tonnes of electronic waste by 2030, equivalent to 13.3 billion discarded smartphones.

In a report last year, the OECD estimated that AI could consume up to 6.6 billion cubic meters of water per year by 2027, twice the annual consumption of Switzerland.

Lack of Transparency and Accountability

The lack of transparency from AI giants, such as their refusal to disclose energy consumption data, makes it difficult to estimate the actual environmental impact of AI. A study published in June, for which Luccioni was a co-author, noted that 84% of requests addressed to conversational robots were processed by models whose environmental footprint remains completely opaque.

The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, has claimed that each ChatGPT request consumes around 0.34 watt-hours of energy. However, Luccioni argues that these figures are not verifiable and do not take into account the overall energy consumption of AI, which could be colossal when considering the billions of daily requests and the generation of images.

The ITU reports that emissions linked to the activities of AI giants have increased by an average of 150% since 2020, emphasising the need for more sustainable AI practices and greater transparency from the industry to mitigate the environmental consequences of AI development.

Luccioni argues that breaking up the monopolies of big tech companies is necessary to encourage transparency and environmental responsibility.

On an individual level, Luccioni warned against over-reliance on generative AI, citing an MIT study that showed ChatGPT could reduce brain activity in areas linked to attention, planning, memory and critical thinking. She also warned that AI produces false information, known as “hallucinations.”

Luccioni concluded her interview saying that it is essential to continue demanding answers about the reliability, rigour and environmental footprint of AI, just like any other technology that enters our lives, and to highlight the importance of transparency and accountability in the development and use of AI.

Regarding the upper tolerable intake limit, the World Health Organisation estimates it is calculated as 0.1 mg/kg body weight per day. This upper limit relates to fluoride from all sources, including toothpaste.

In a 2010 European Union Science Committee document, the estimated upper tolerable intake limit for children aged between 8 and 14 years is 5 mg/day, extrapolated from the estimated upper limit for adults. The upper tolerable intake limit for children aged between 4 and 8 years is estimated at 2.5 mg/day. As noted by Fluoride Action Network, for children younger than 4, between 60% and 104% of their recommended daily limit of fluoride (0.7 mg) is obtained from toothpaste alone while brushing their teeth twice daily. The upper tolerable intake limit for 2 and 3-year-olds is 1.3 mg daily – they get 0.7 mg from toothpaste and then you add the fluoride intake from its many sources including water and milk.

As the European Union Science Committee document demonstrates, it is complex and impossible to calculate anyone’s total daily fluoride intake with any accuracy.

Each child participating in the scheme receives a carton of 189ml of fluoridated milk. Therefore, each participating child is given milk containing 4.2 parts per million (“ppm”) of fluoride every school day.

A 2022 policy paper for the UK government stated, “In some parts of England the level of fluoride in the public water supply already reaches the target concentration of water fluoridation schemes (one milligram per litre (1mg/l)), sometimes expressed as one part per million (1ppm)), as a result of the geology of the area. In other areas the fluoride concentration has been adjusted to reach this level as part of a fluoridation scheme.”

The policy paper continued, “The World Health Organisation recommends a maximum level of 1.5 milligrams of fluoride per litre of water (mg/l) [or 1.5 ppm].”

In addition to the 1 ppm of fluoride in drinking water, the Blackpool Council is adding 4.2 ppm to breakfasts for children participating in the school breakfast scheme.

For comparison, in the US, the recommended safe level of fluoride in water is 0.7 ppm.

As Libertarianism UK noted, the US safe limit of 0.7 ppm was lowered in 2015 from the previous 0.7-1.2 ppm range. The Department of Health and Human Services lowered the safe limit because it was decided the higher limit of 1.2 ppm was a potential danger.

It’s not only Blackpool council risking the health of children. At the end of its webpage, Blackpool Council notes that “a successful fluoride milk scheme has been operating in Manchester for a number of years.” We couldn’t find a start date for when Manchester began distributing fluoridated milk to schools. But we assume children in Manchester have been given the same unsafe 4.2 ppm of fluoride in each carton of milk for “a number of years.”

Meanwhile, on the other side of the pond, the Federal Court in California ruled on Tuesday that adding 0.7 ppm of fluoride to water poses an unreasonable risk to children’s intelligence.

Last month, the long-delayed final report from the US National Toxicology Programme (“NTP”) confirmed that there is a large, consistent and reliable body of scientific research linking fluoride to reduced IQ.

After the release of the NTP report, it was expected that Californian Judge Edward Chen would issue his final ruling for a case brought against the US Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”).

For nearly a decade, Food & Water Watch, Fluoride Action Network and others have been in a legal battle with the EPA after the EPA denied their petition against local water utilities adding fluoride into water supplies.

Last week, on 24 September, Judge Chen issued his ruling. He ruled that fluoridation of water at 0.7 mg/l “poses an unreasonable risk of reduced IQ in children.” 0.7 mg/l is the equivalent of 0.7 ppm.

Judge Chen noted that the finding does not “conclude with certainty” that fluoridated water is “injurious to public health” but does find there is “an unreasonable risk of such injury” and the EPA cannot ignore the risk.

Related: EPA Lawsuit, Fluoride Action Network and US Department of Health and Human Services report confirms fluoride exposure is associated with lower IQ in children

Federal Judge Rules Fluoride is a Neurotoxin in Historic Lawsuit

Fluoride poses an unreasonable risk of reduced IQ in children, according to a US federal court.

By Derrick Broze as published by The Last American Vagabond

On Tuesday a federal court in California found that fluoridation of water at 0.7 milligrammes per litre “poses an unreasonable risk of reduced IQ in children.”

The new ruling issued by Judge Edward Chen noted that the finding does not “conclude with certainty” that fluoridated water is “injurious to public health” but does find there is “an unreasonable risk of such injury.” This risk is sufficient to require the EPA to enact a regulatory response, Chen wrote.

The decision is the latest ruling in an eight-year legal battle between the US Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) and the Fluoride Action Network (“FAN”). The lawsuit began following the EPA’s 2016 decision to deny the plaintiff’s petition under the Toxic Substances Control Act (“TSCA”). The first phase of the trial took place in summer 2020 via Zoom and the second phase of the fluoride lawsuit concluded in February in San Francisco.

While Judge Chen did not tell the EPA what the response to the ruling should be, he did rule that the EPA cannot ignore the risk.

The EPA must now initiate a rulemaking process to determine what regulation they will implement to lower or eliminate the risk posed by water fluoridation. The EPA is likely to appeal the decision, but could also drag out the rulemaking process for years.

The Fluoride Action Network believes the most effective way to eliminate this risk is to end water fluoridation and ban the practice altogether.

“In our view, attempts by the EPA to appeal or delay this ruling will only result in harm to hundreds of thousands of additional children, particularly those whose families are unable to afford expensive reverse osmosis or distillation filtration of their tap water,” wrote Stuart Cooper, Executive Director for the Fluoride Action Network.

Judge Chen’s ruling includes several strong statements which make it clear his court has no doubt water fluoridation is causing harm, even at the levels currently recommended by US health agencies. These statements conflict with the claims of the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and lobbying groups like the American Dental Association.

“The Court finds that fluoridation of water at 0.7 milligrams per litre (“mg/l”) – the level presently considered ‘optimal’ in the United States – poses an unreasonable risk of reduced IQ in children,” Chen wrote.

Chen goes on to note that “there is little dispute” regarding the hazard fluoride poses to human health. “Indeed, EPA’s own expert agrees that fluoride is hazardous at some level of exposure,” the judge acknowledges. “And ample evidence establishes that a mother’s exposure to fluoride during pregnancy is associated with IQ decrements in her offspring.”

Judge Chen’s statement regarding fluoride exposure during pregnancy reinforces statements made by multiple expert witnesses presented by the FAN during the trials.

One such witness was Dr. Howard Hu. In February, Hu told the court that babies in the third trimester typically pull calcium from the mother’s bones as they develop their skeletal structure. If a mother is receiving fluoride this will be stored in her bones. When her child begins pulling minerals from the mother it will also receive fluoride via the placenta.

Following his testimony to the court, Dr. Howard Hu confirmed to The Last American Vagabond that he believes fluoride is a neurotoxin.

“Yes. I would say that, in my view, the evidence is quite persuasive that there is a negative impact of fluoride exposure on the neurodevelopment of children, particularly the research that’s been coming out in prenatal exposure,” he said.

Judge Chen acknowledged that there is uncertainty as to the precise level at which fluoride becomes hazardous. However, he also stated that even with this uncertainty “the risk to health at exposure levels in United States drinking water is sufficiently high to trigger regulatory response by the EPA under Amended TSCA.”

In response to the ruling, FAN’s attorney, Michael Connett, said, “The Court has done what EPA has long refused to do: applied EPA’s risk assessment framework to fluoride. It’s a historic decision.”

Connett also stated that while the EPA’s rulemaking process begins, policymakers ought to ask, “Should we really be adding a neurotoxicant to our drinking water?”

Censored Report From the NTP Released in August

The ruling comes on the heels of the release of a long-delayed and censored report from the US National Toxicology Programme (“NTP”). The NTP report found “moderate confidence” that fluoride exposure is “consistently associated with lower IQ in children”

The NTP is run by the US Department of Health and Human Services to coordinate, evaluate, and report on toxicology within public agencies, and is headquartered at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (“NIEHS”).

The NTP’s final report was a factor in Judge Chen’s ruling, with Chen writing, “Notwithstanding inherent difficulties in observing effects at lower exposure levels… scientists have observed a statistically significant association between fluoride and adverse effects in children even at such “lower” exposure levels (less than 1.5 mg/l).”

The NTP’s final report, also known as a monograph, reported that 72 studies examined the “association between fluoride exposure and IQ in children,” and 64 of those studied found “an inverse relationship associated between estimated fluoride exposure and IQ in children.”

Of the total 72 studies, the NTP considered 19 of those studies to be “high quality”, and of those high-quality studies, 18 “reported an inverse association between estimated fluoride exposure and IQ in children.”

Even among another 53 studies which were considered to be “low-quality” the NTP found that “46 of the 53 low-quality studies [88%] in children also found evidence of an inverse association between estimated fluoride exposure and IQ in children.”

The NTP report has been the source of controversy over the last couple of years as it became clear that elements of the US government were seeking to prevent its release.

Now that the final ruling from Judge Chen has been released, time will tell if local, state and national governments outside of the United States listen to the rulings and warnings, or continue to ignore the scientific data and allow the poisoning of their own populations.
