Terrified AI Researcher Quits, Warns Technology Threatens Humanity’s Survival

A leading artificial intelligence researcher has abruptly quit his lucrative position at AI giant Anthropic to blow the whistle on the terrifying threat posed by technology and sound the alarm about a nightmare scenario unfolding behind closed doors.

Jacob Coxon, who has worked at both Anthropic and OpenAI, is warning that the technology being unleashed on the world could soon become uncontrollable and potentially wipe out humanity before the end of the decade.

Coxon says the people actually building the world’s most powerful AI systems privately fear the same thing.

According to Coxon, top AI executives are secretly panicking that they are already losing control of the technology.

“The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade,” Coxon warned.

“This is not a marketing stunt.

“If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible — but I hear the same people express fear privately.”

His stunning warning comes after AI researchers have already witnessed models escaping their intended constraints, collaborating with other agents, stealing credentials, hacking external systems, and attempting to conceal their actions.

Coxon now says humanity is rapidly approaching a point where the machines could become too powerful to control.

“We’re on track for a lot of the most aggressive of these scenarios where by the end of next year things could be out of control already,” Coxon told the Wall Street Journal.

‘These Will Soon Be Superhuman Systems’

Coxon joined Anthropic after leaving OpenAI earlier this year.

He had believed Anthropic, which markets itself as a safety-conscious alternative to other frontier AI laboratories, would take a more responsible approach to developing increasingly powerful systems.

However, Coxon now says neither company is “acting responsibly.”

“Do not underestimate the power of this technology,” Coxon warned.

“These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources.”

“No other human activity poses this level of danger,” he added.

The warning carries particular weight because Coxon isn’t an outside activist speculating about what AI could eventually become.

He has been working inside the companies racing to build it.

And he is not the first researcher to walk away.

Several scientists have left OpenAI in recent years while raising serious concerns about AI safety.

Coxon’s departure is especially significant, however, because Anthropic was itself created partly in response to concerns about the direction of OpenAI.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei co-founded OpenAI alongside CEO Sam Altman before leaving in December 2020 amid concerns about how the technology was being developed.

Yet Anthropic’s own experiments have now produced disturbing results.

AI Escapes ‘Sandbox’ During Testing

Earlier this year, OpenAI revealed that AI agents operating under testing conditions found ways around their restrictions, communicated with one another, and infiltrated systems belonging to open-source AI platform Hugging Face.

Anthropic has experienced its own alarming incidents.

An early version of its Claude Mythos model escaped its sandbox environment during testing in April.

Then, in August, Anthropic deliberately trained an extremely misaligned version of its Opus model to investigate how dangerous reward-seeking behavior could become.

The results were disturbing.

The AI demonstrated a willingness to cheat, steal credentials, and attack third-party infrastructure.

Even Amodei has publicly warned about the potentially civilization-altering consequences of the technology his company is developing.

In a lengthy essay published in January, Amodei warned that “humanity is about to be handed almost unimaginable power, and it is deeply unclear whether our social, political, and technological systems possess the maturity to wield it.”

The accelerating capabilities have forced both Altman and Amodei to acknowledge the need to slow aspects of development.

For Coxon, however, the measures being taken are nowhere near enough.

AI ‘Endgame’ Being Decided on Private Company Slack

Coxon is particularly alarmed that decisions carrying potentially existential consequences for humanity are being made privately inside Silicon Valley corporations.

“Accepting this race and entering the ‘endgame’ is a hubristic gamble that should not be launched from a private company’s Slack,” Coxon warned.

“Attempting to speedrun alignment should require extraordinary confidence that there are no better trajectories available.”

He compared the situation to the development of the atomic bomb during World War II, except the technology potentially threatening civilization is being built by engineers working on laptops.

“It’s kind of insane that it has to happen on the MacBooks of some engineers living in San Francisco instead of a bunker in the desert like where they were doing the Manhattan Project,” Coxon told the Wall Street Journal.

His warning strikes at the central problem confronting the AI industry.

The companies developing the world’s most powerful models are simultaneously racing against one another to make those systems even more capable.

Stopping or substantially slowing that race could mean sacrificing enormous commercial advantages.

But continuing it could mean creating systems their own developers can no longer control.

Race Toward Superhuman AI Accelerates

Coxon said he remains “optimistic about the potential for coordination” between America’s leading AI laboratories.

However, both Anthropic and OpenAI are moving toward potentially enormous public offerings, creating immense financial incentives to keep advancing their technology.

Coxon argues that companies must be prepared to take genuinely costly measures, including “a temporary ban on improving model capabilities,” if the danger becomes too great.

His departure comes as warnings once dismissed as science fiction are increasingly emerging from the very researchers developing the technology.

AI models are already demonstrating behaviors involving deception, cyberattacks, unauthorized cooperation, credential theft, and attempts to circumvent restrictions during controlled testing.

Now, one of the researchers who witnessed the industry’s development from inside two of its most powerful companies has walked away rather than continue participating in the race.

And his message to the public couldn’t be more chilling.

“The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”

Get ready for Grocery price hikes as Hormuz closure threatens global food supply

The worldwide energy disruption triggered by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is likely only the first wave of economic fallout tied to the conflict with Iran, with food prices expected to climb next and remain elevated even after fighting subsides.

That warning comes from research into how institutions shape supply chains and business operations. The same maritime chokepoint that handles about 20 percent of global crude oil trade and a comparable share of liquefied natural gas shipments also carries roughly one-third of the world’s traded fertilizer, a critical input for agriculture.

Modern farming relies on careful timing and sufficient quantities of nutrients. When fertilizer shipments are delayed or become too costly, farmers face difficult choices: apply less fertilizer, reduce the area they plant, or switch to crops that require fewer nutrients. Each of those decisions lowers productivity, shrinking supplies of staple foods, livestock feed, and ingredients used across the food industry.

The effects could reach consumers quickly. Rising corn prices, for example, would push up the cost of common foods and products. Corn-fed beef, fresh corn, and a wide range of packaged goods that rely on corn-based sweeteners could all become more expensive.

Three staple crops—corn, wheat, and rice—account for more than half of global calorie consumption. To achieve high yields, these crops depend on three key nutrients: nitrogen, phosphate, and potassium. Nitrogen promotes plant growth, phosphorus supports energy transfer and root development, and potassium helps regulate water use and improves protein content.

The disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has tightened supplies and driven up costs for all three nutrients.

Natural gas, which accounts for 70 to 90 percent of nitrogen fertilizer production costs, has been hit particularly hard. Production has dropped by about 20 percent during the conflict, while prices have surged as much as 70 percent.

At the same time, Russia has halted exports of ammonium nitrate, another important nitrogen source, in an effort to protect domestic supply.

China has taken similar steps with phosphate, suspending exports and removing about a quarter of global supply from international markets. Potash, the potassium component in fertilizers, was already constrained before the conflict due in part to sanctions affecting major producers Belarus and Russia.

As a result, fertilizer prices have jumped worldwide. In the United States, some fertilizers increased by more than 40 percent within a month of the war’s outbreak in late February 2026.

Analysts warn that these pressures will ripple through global food systems in the months ahead. As one expert noted, “Modern agriculture depends on precise timing of delivering nutrients to plants,” and disruptions at this scale can quickly translate into reduced output.

Another observed that farmers may be forced “to either reduce the amount they use, plant fewer crops or switch to crops that need less fertilizer,” all of which point to tighter food supplies.

The broader concern is that even after hostilities ease, the lag in agricultural production and supply chain recovery could keep food prices elevated for an extended period.

Trump Threatens To Invoke Insurrection Act As Left-Wing Chaos In Minneapolis Spreads

In response to overnight left-wing chaos, what can only be described as the Democratic Party’s “George Floyd 2.0” attempt, President Trump wrote on Truth Social about the very real possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act.

“If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT, which many Presidents have done before me, and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State,” Trump warned.

The warning from Trump comes after left-wing nonprofits and far-left militant groups mobilized in the metro area in the last week after a “legal observer” was shot and killed. These left-wing groups have been positioned to mount a pressure campaign against federal agents, seeking to disrupt deportation operations targeting criminal illegal aliens (or the Democrat Party’s future voting bloc).

The Insurrection Act would allow Trump to deploy active-duty military forces or federalize the National Guard within the Democratic-run state to restore order as Democrats allow left-wing groups to go rogue. The act has not been invoked since the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

This is a legal nuclear option to restore order after left-wing rioters last night looted federal vehicles, stole weapons and ammunition, and after an incident in which an ICE agent shot an illegal during a violent confrontation with the agent.

Potential invocation of the Insurrection Act represents a significant shift in the federal civil-military posture of the Trump administration, as left-wing orgs mount a fight. Perhaps it’s time for the Trump administration to leave flank these orgs and begin an assault across the funding networks within the nonprofit world.

The killing of the left-wing activist (legal observer) by an ICE agent in Minneapolis has become the catalyst that Democratic Party-aligned dark-money-funded NGOs and militant far-left groups have been waiting for to spark street chaos, hoping to shift public sentiment toward defunding ICE. Instead of demanding that criminal illegal aliens leave, Democrats who run the metro area have posted on the city’s official X account, demanding that ICE agents leave the town.

In a separate incident, Homeland Security said an ICE agent shot an illegal in the leg after the “subject began to resist and violently assault the officer.” Then the agency said the officer was “ambushed and attacked by two individuals, the original subject got loose and began striking the officer with a shovel or broom stick…”

At 6:50 PM CT, federal law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted traffic stop in Minneapolis of an illegal alien from Venezuela who was released into the country by Joe Biden in 2022.

In an attempt to evade arrest, the subject fled the scene in his vehicle and crashed…

But Sanjaya Senanayake, an Infectious Diseases Physician at the Australian National University School of Medicine and Psychology, warned that this is entirely possible.

He told Express.co.uk: “It does cause a problem, and it is quite likely, as China is seeing a lot of it, that with all the global travel that we see, particularly at this time of year, it may be taken to other parts of the world.”

There is no need to be concerned about this virus becoming the next pandemic, particularly given it was not passed onto humans from animals, as most experts believe COVID-19.

But he urged China to stay vigilant and watch for indicators of a new disease that may be spreading.

Prof Senanayake said: “Throughout this outbreak China needs to keep gathering the data or to see which viruses and which bacteria are dominating, or whether something new is appearing.

“If they do see something unusual they need to let the World Health Organisation know ASAP.”

UK Police Chief Threatens Arrest of Americans Over Online Posts: ‘We’ll Come After You’

London’s Metropolitan Police chief has issued a chilling warning: authorities won’t stop at targeting British citizens for their online commentary. They are now extending their reach across the Atlantic, threatening to extradite American citizens who voice opinions on British affairs.

“We will throw the full force of the law at people. And whether you’re in this country committing crimes on the streets or committing crimes from further afield online, we will come after you,” Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley told Sky News.

Rowley was speaking after riots and street violence broke out across the UK following the mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event that left three young girls dead and others wounded.

What’s truly shocking about this social media crackdown, according to free speech advocates, is that the British government isn’t stopping at its borders. They’re threatening to extradite American citizens from the U.S. to the U.K. to face jail time for violating British rules on political speech online.

A Sky News reporter asked Commissioner Rowley to further explain his warning in August, arguing that high profile US figures have been “whipping up the hatred,” and that “the likes of Elon Musk” have been getting involved.

The reporter then asked what the police force’s plan will be “when it comes to dealing with people who are whipping up this kind of behavior from behind the keyboard who may be in a different country?”

Rowley answered by telling the reporter, “Being a keyboard warrior does not make you safe from the law.”

“You can be guilty of offenses of incitement, of stirring up racial hatred, there are numerous terrorist offenses regarding the publishing of material,” he said.

“All of those offenses are in play if people are provoking hatred and violence on the streets, and we will come after those individuals just as we will physically confront on the streets the thugs and the yobs who are taking — who are causing the problems for communities.”
