Christian congregations are expanding in some of the world’s most hostile countries even as an estimated 380 million believers face persecution each year for their faith, according to a report from the U.S.-based persecution watchdog International Christian Concern.

ICC’s report, Global Persecution Index 2026, found that the Church is adding members in places where worship can bring arrest, imprisonment or death, pointing to underground and digital networks that let believers gather outside the reach of the state.

“Despite mounting repression, Christianity continues to grow in unexpected places,” ICC researchers wrote.

Iran is the most extreme case, according to the report, which calls the country’s house church movement among the quickest to expand anywhere, sustained by hidden networks and online evangelism even as converts from Islam are arrested, jailed and, in some cases, executed under blasphemy and national-security statutes.

The report quotes anonymous experts who rank Iran’s Christian population as “one of the fastest-growing Christian populations in the world.”

Though still a tiny part of the population, Iranian Christians are proving resilient to the government pressure that surrounds them every day,” the report states. 

In China, believers gather in private residences and through encrypted online meetings even under constant state monitoring. 

However, such expansion is happening alongside a rise in religious nationalism, a leading force behind shrinking freedom of belief, ICC stresses.

In India, militant Hindu groups tied to the governing Bharatiya Janata Party have attacked Christian and Muslim minorities, and several state governments have passed laws restricting conversion.

Anti-conversion measures are now enforced in 13 of India’s 28 states, the report notes, adding that courts haven’t convicted a Christian of forcing anyone to convert but they are often “harassed and jailed on the mere suspicion of wrongdoing.”

In the year ending in July 2025, the group counted more than 1,100 Christians in India driven from their homes and 276 recorded cases of physical or mental abuse.

“Yet amid repression, faith continues to grow,” researchers wrote. “Reports from underground networks in India and Pakistan indicate steady increases in conversions and discipleship. Believers gather in private homes, remote villages, and online fellowships. Their quiet courage affirms that the flame of faith cannot be extinguished, even in the crucible of persecution.”

In North Korea, small underground church networks operate “entirely in darkness,” the report notes, but they continue to hold services, conduct radio broadcasts and smuggle in materials. 

“North Korea remains among the hardest persecutors of Christians and religious life in the world,” the report reads. “The Kim regime operates a zero-tolerance policy against any belief system outside state ideology, viewing Christianity not as a faith but as a dangerous external subversion.”

“Nonetheless, the clandestine church persists.”

Africa has emerged as the world’s leading continent of terrorism. According to the Institute for Economics and Peace, close to half of all terror-related deaths now happen in Africa.

Armed movements such as Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province and al-Shabab operate through Nigeria, the Sahel, the Horn of Africa and Mozambique. 

ICC counted more than 500 Christians killed and nearly 500 attacks on churches in Nigeria in the year ending in July 2025.

On Oct. 31, 2025, the U.S. government named Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern, a designation the State Department reserves for governments it finds responsible for severe violations of religious freedom.

Even under these conditions, the report said, congregations rebuild burned churches and keep worshiping.

The report recorded comparable pressure in Latin America, where Nicaragua’s government has imprisoned priests, exiled bishops and closed church-run universities, and where authorities in Cuba decide which congregations may operate legally.

The United Kingdom-based group Christian Solidarity Worldwide logged 1,898 government actions against religious groups in Cuba during 2024, the report notes.

Authorities in Eritrea hold Christians in shipping containers and secret prisons, according to the report, which said at least eight believers there have been detained for periods ranging from 18 to 21 years for practicing their faith.

ICC tracks 22 countries in the index, and 13 of them carry the Country of Particular Concern label.

The group’s figures on killings come from a violent-incidents database it maintains with the International Institute for Religious Freedom, which recorded, for the year ending in July 2025, nearly 400 killings in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 167 in Russia, 38 in Myanmar, 14 in Pakistan, 13 in Indonesia, 12 in Somalia and three in Turkey. The group cautions that the totals capture only a fraction of the persecution it has documented.

A confidential US government assessment from 2022 warned that a sudden disruption of semiconductor production in Taiwan could reduce American economic output by approximately 11 percent, translating into losses of roughly $2.5 trillion, with global economic damage exceeding $10 trillion. Those figures, cited in subsequent reporting on the classified analysis, reflect the extraordinary degree to which the global economy depends on a narrow segment of advanced chip manufacturing concentrated on one island. 

Taiwan is not simply another participant in the semiconductor supply chain. It occupies a structurally central position in the production of the world’s most advanced logic chips. If that capacity were abruptly removed, the resulting shock would extend far beyond East Asia and would likely reverberate across nearly every major industrial sector. 

The True Scale of Global Dependence on Taiwan

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, accounts for more than 90 percent of global production of the most advanced logic chips below 10 nanometers, according to industry estimates widely reported by Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal. These components are essential to artificial intelligence systems, advanced defense platforms, high-performance computing infrastructure, smartphones, and data centers. 

The Semiconductor Industry Association estimates that semiconductors underpin approximately $7 trillion in global economic activity annually. 

The pandemic-era semiconductor shortage provides a limited but instructive preview of what supply disruption can mean in practice. In 2021 alone, the global auto industry lost an estimated $210 billion in revenue because of chip shortages, according to consulting firm AlixPartners. That episode was caused by demand surges and logistical constraints rather than military conflict. A geopolitical rupture affecting Taiwan’s fabrication plants would be considerably more severe. 

For context, U.S. GDP declined by approximately 4.3 percent during the 2008–2009 financial crisis. An 11 percent contraction, as modelled in the 2022 assessment, would represent a downturn on a scale not seen in modern times outside of the Great Depression. 

Are US Efforts to Rebuild Domestic Capacity Enough?

Recognising the vulnerability inherent in this concentration, the United States has initiated a broad effort to expand domestic semiconductor manufacturing. The CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 allocated $52.7 billion in incentives to support US-based semiconductor production, research, and development. 

In addition to subsidies, the federal government has used tariffs, export controls, equity stakes, and sustained executive pressure to encourage companies to establish or expand fabrication facilities on American soil. Policymakers have also pressed firms to commit to purchasing domestically produced chips in order to justify the capital-intensive construction of new plants. 

Several major investment commitments have followed. TSMC has pledged more than $50 billion to build fabrication plants in Arizona. 

Samsung has committed approximately $45 billion to expand semiconductor manufacturing in Texas. 

Intel has been awarded over $11 billion in CHIPS Act funding, and the US government has taken a 10 percent stake in the company as part of an effort to preserve a domestic leading-edge manufacturer capable of competing with TSMC. 

Nvidia and Apple have also announced substantial purchase commitments tied to US-produced chips, further supporting the case for expanded domestic capacity. 

These projects are expected to increase US chip manufacturing capacity by roughly 50 percent by 2030. However, even with that expansion, the United States would still account for only about 10 percent of global semiconductor production, and the most advanced process nodes would remain heavily concentrated in Taiwan. 

Why Hasn’t Production Moved from Taiwan Sooner?

The economic incentives that shaped corporate decision-making help explain why diversification did not occur sooner. Industry analyses cited by Reuters and semiconductor trade publications indicate that chips manufactured in the United States can cost more than 25 percent more than those produced in Taiwan. 

For years, executives prioritised cost efficiency and shareholder returns. Customers were reluctant to pay higher prices for domestically produced chips, particularly when many US facilities lagged behind Taiwan in cutting-edge process nodes. Without guaranteed long-term purchase agreements, large-scale US fabrication investments were difficult to justify on purely commercial grounds. 

It was only as geopolitical risk became more pronounced that governments stepped in to offset cost differentials through public subsidies and policy intervention. 

Taiwan “Advanced Packaging” Will Still Play Key Role

Even as wafer fabrication begins to expand in the United States, a critical vulnerability persists in “advanced packaging”, the stage of production in which chips are assembled, integrated, and finalised for deployment. 

Taiwan remains a dominant player in advanced packaging, according to data from SEMI, the global semiconductor industry association. 

This means that wafers manufactured in Arizona may still need to be shipped back to Taiwan for packaging before reaching customers. Reports indicate that some Nvidia wafers produced in the United States have required packaging in Taiwan, preserving exposure to disruption in the Taiwan Strait. 

The supply chain is therefore not merely about where wafers are fabricated but about where they are completed and integrated. That interdependence limits the degree of insulation offered by domestic fabrication alone.

The Military and Strategy Angles

Semiconductors are foundational not only to consumer technology but also to national defense systems. Precision-guided munitions, satellite communications, cyber operations, and AI-enabled military platforms all rely on advanced chips. 

The U.S. Department of Defense has repeatedly highlighted vulnerabilities in microelectronics supply chains. 

Former Indo-Pacific Commander Admiral Philip Davidson testified before Congress that China could seek to take control of Taiwan by 2027, a timeline that has influenced Pentagon planning.  

On March 9, 2021, he said: “Taiwan is clearly one of their ambitions before then. And I think the threat is manifest during this decade, in fact, in the next six years.” He cited China’s accelerating timeline to “supplant the United States” and comprehensive military buildup including “ships, aircraft, rockets” combined with aggressive actions across “Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and Tibet.” The assessment prompted broader analysis of whether China was stepping up its ambition to supplant the United States as the dominant global superpower. 

Recent Chinese live-fire drills around Taiwan have reinforced the perception that the risk of military escalation is now a tangible concern.

Final Thought

The 2022 warning that a disruption of Taiwan’s semiconductor output could generate more than $10 trillion in global losses is rooted in the structural realities of the modern economy. Advanced chips are not peripheral inputs. They form the technological backbone of digital infrastructure, industrial automation, finance, and defense. 

Governments in the United States, Europe, and Asia are now investing heavily to diversify production and reduce concentration risk. Yet building parallel ecosystems requires time, capital, and skilled labor, and the most advanced manufacturing and packaging capabilities remain Taiwan-centric. 

If a crisis were to occur before diversification efforts mature, the consequences would likely be severe and immediate. The scale of the projected losses reflects not alarmism but arithmetic. The global economy has optimised for efficiency over decades. It is only now confronting the cost of fragility.

Retired U. Air Force Major Thomas Haviland joined epidemiologist Nicolas Hulscher to present findings from two large-scale investigations into post-vaccine clotting abnormalities – one focused on the deceased, the other on the living.

The latest Worldwide Embalmer White Fibrous Clot Survey – a multi-year investigation documenting the sudden and widespread appearance of anomalous white fibrous clots in the deceased – draws from the testimony of embalmers around the globe who began observing these structures after the rollout of covid mRNA injections.

The companion People’s Blood Clot Survey gathers more than 1,400 self-reported and observed clotting cases from individuals across 40 countries, offering further insight into delayed clotting complications following vaccination.

2024 Worldwide Embalmer Blood Clot Survey

Respondents: 301 embalmers from multiple countries
Key Results:

• 83% (250 embalmers) reported seeing large, white, fibrous clots in corpses during 2024, up from 73% in 2023.
• These clots were found in an average of 27.5% of all embalmed bodies, a rise from 20% in the previous year.
• Embalmers stated they had never observed these clots before 2021, coinciding with the introduction of covid vaccines.
• 78% also reported seeing signs of micro-clotting – described as “dirty blood” or “coffee grounds” – in about 22% of cases, compared to less than 5% before 2020.
• Most embalmers acknowledged that their professional associations have never addressed this issue, despite high visibility in the field.

Respondents: 1,425 individuals from over 40 countries
Purpose: To gather self-reported or observed blood clotting events since 2020
Key Results:

• 1,294 individuals (91%) with clotting issues had received at least one covid vaccine dose.
• Only 79 clotting cases were reported in 2020 (pre-vaccine), compared to over 500 per year in 2021–2024.
• 26% of clotting cases occurred six months to over a year after injection – supporting theories of delayed-onset clot development.
• Most common clot locations: legs, lungs, brain, and heart – exactly matching CDC’s V-safe “free text” field analysis.
• 257 individuals required surgical removal of clots; 242 people died from clot-related complications.

Broader Implications and Suppression

• Major Haviland submitted his survey findings each year to the FDA, CDC, and NIH – without any response.
• Associations in the UK and other nations refused to participate despite having codes of ethics requiring investigation of unusual post-mortem findings.

• Tested positive for prion seeding using RT-QuIC, raising concerns of infectious protein activity.

As Tom Haviland prepares to present to the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association in June 2025, the data continues to point to a persistent, under-investigated and potentially catastrophic post-vaccine pathology. Despite the reluctance of institutional authorities to act, independent researchers and embalmers worldwide are stepping up to document what many believe is one of the most urgent and unaddressed medical phenomena of our time.

A new report from agencies affiliated with the United Nations has called for all forms of drug use and sexual activity to be decriminalized globally.

Written by the International Committee of Jurists (ICJ), UNAIDS and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the report was released on International Women’s Day, with the goal of guiding “the application of international human rights law to criminal law.” Called the “8 March principles,” the report calls for offenses related to “sex, drug use, HIV, sexual and reproductive health, homelessness and poverty” to be decriminalized.

The United Nations experts say that criminalizing offenses related to these issues constitute an attack on human rights.

“Criminal law is among the harshest of tools at the disposal of the State to exert control over individuals… as such, it ought to be a measure of last resort however, globally, there has been a growing trend towards overcriminalization,” Ian Seiderman, Law and Policy Director at ICJ, said in the press release. “We must acknowledge that these laws not only violate human rights, but the fundamental principles of criminal law themselves.”

While on the surface, it may seem relatively uncontroversial, the report implies that sex regardless of age be decriminalized, so long as the minors “consent” (emphasis added):

With respect to the enforcement of criminal law, any prescribed minimum age of consent to sex must be applied in a non-discriminatory manner. Enforcement may not be linked to the sex/gender of participants or age of consent to marriage. Moreover, sexual conduct involving persons below the domestically prescribed minimum age of consent to sex may be consensual, in fact, if not in law. In this context, the enforcement of criminal law should reflect the rights and capacity of persons under 18 years of age to make decisions about engaging in consensual sexual conduct and their right to be heard in matters concerning them.

Pursuant to their evolving capacities and progressive autonomy, persons under 18 years of age should participate in decisions affecting them, with due regard to their age, maturity and best interests, and with specific attention to non-discrimination guarantees.

Minors, of course, cannot truly consent to sex with an adult — something these so-called experts should know. The report also calls for all criminal laws relating to sex work to be abolished, which could easily serve to aid traffickers, pimps, and abusers. In turn, this serves the abortion industry as well, which has aided traffickers and abusers by failing to report suspected abuse and returning victims to their abusers after their abortions. Decriminalizing sex work, sex crimes against minors, and abortion would only serve to doubly suit traffickers and abusers, who are known to use abortion as a means to cover up their crimes.

Additionally, reproductive health is a catchphrase for abortion, of which the United Nations is an avid supporter. The UN has long promoted abortion as a so-called “human right.”

Correction, 4/20/23: This article’s title and content have been updated to clarify that while the UN report did not specifically endorse sex between adults and minors, it makes clear the panel’s belief that children may be able to consent to sex even though they are not legally able to do so. Notably, no age restrictions are specified in this section of the report.
