European Union bureaucrats are setting their sights on seizing control of a staggering $10 trillion in private household savings as Brussels scrambles to finance its sprawling climate, defense, and globalist agenda.

The unelected European Commission is pushing ahead with its so-called “Savings and Investments Union,” a scheme designed to redirect vast sums currently sitting in Europeans’ bank accounts toward investments favored by the bloc.

EU officials openly acknowledge that approximately “€10 trillion in household savings” is currently held in bank deposits rather than European capital markets.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has now declared that Brussels wants to take control of these funds to “put these savings to work.”

In a speech before business elites in France, von der Leyen called on fellow eurocrats to “unlock” the general public’s savings and “reinvest” the funds in the globalist agenda.

While the current proposal does not yet authorize the EU to simply confiscate citizens’ bank balances, the push has ignited fears that the move will inevitably lead to Brussels seizing the general public’s savings.

The calls come as EU governments struggle under mounting debt and enormous spending commitments.

Brussels Targets Europeans’ Private Wealth

The European Commission says Europe requires hundreds of billions of euros in additional investment every year to pursue its strategic objectives.

According to the Commission, the bloc faces massive funding demands from climate policies, technological development, geopolitical upheaval, and increased defense spending.

The Draghi report estimates that Europe needs an additional €750 billion to €800 billion every year by 2030.

Rather than relying exclusively on government spending or traditional bank financing, Brussels wants to channel more private capital into those priorities.

The European Council estimates that approximately €10 trillion of household savings is currently sitting in low-yield bank deposits.

“This mismatch prevents savings from being used effectively to support business investments and the broader real economy,” the Council states.

Plans under consideration include tax incentives, investment accounts, changes to securitization rules, regulatory reforms, and increasingly integrated financial supervision.

The objective is clear: persuade Europeans to move enormous amounts of privately held money out of ordinary bank deposits and into capital markets aligned with Brussels’ investment priorities.

Von der Leyen, the EU’s unelected leader, spelled out that ambition while addressing French business leaders in Paris on August 27.

“€10 trillion of household savings is currently sitting in bank deposits, and a significant part of European savings is invested outside our continent,” von der Leyen said.

“Europe must now put these savings to work for its companies, and that is the goal of the Savings and Investment Union.”

“We have put proposals on the table on securitisation, bank and insurance investments, the integration of our markets and their supervision.”

“Together, they can unlock up to €470 billion in additional investment.”

EU Needs Hundreds of Billions Every Year

Brussels’ hunt for private capital comes as European governments struggle under enormous debt burdens while simultaneously pursuing hugely expensive climate, industrial, infrastructure, digital, and defense policies.

The Draghi report estimates that the EU needs another €750 billion to €800 billion annually to meet those ambitions.

That amounts to approximately 4.4% to 4.7% of Europe’s annual GDP.

Meanwhile, public debt reached 82.9% of EU GDP during the first quarter of 2026 and 88.9% across the eurozone.

Some of Europe’s largest economies are carrying even greater burdens.

France’s debt stood at 117.6% of GDP, while Italy reached 138.9% and Greece 143.5%.

Against that backdrop, the enormous pool of private wealth sitting in Europeans’ bank accounts has become increasingly attractive to Brussels.

The European Commission insists the Savings and Investments Union would benefit citizens and businesses by creating deeper capital markets and potentially generating higher returns for savers.

But the initiative also gives EU policymakers an obvious route toward mobilizing private wealth when governments cannot finance Brussels’ ambitions through public spending alone.

‘More Integration, More Common Supervision’

The project is not entirely new.

The Savings and Investments Union is effectively the successor to the Capital Markets Union launched in 2015.

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde acknowledged in 2024 that dozens of regulatory and non-legislative initiatives had already been proposed as part of that earlier effort.

Yet European officials concluded that the project had failed to produce the deep, integrated capital markets they wanted.

Brussels’ answer is now another push toward deeper financial integration and common supervision.

The European Conservative noted that the revived initiative amounts to “more integration, more common supervision, and another regulatory package.”

The enormous financial ambitions are unfolding alongside a broader transformation of the global monetary system.

The Bank for International Settlements has been promoting the development of “tokenised unified ledgers” incorporating central bank money, commercial bank deposits, and government bonds.

“Tokenisation – the digital representation of assets on programmable platforms – integrates messaging, reconciliation and settlement into a single seamless operation, and can transform cross-border payments and securities markets, ushering in a new era for the financial system,” the BIS states.

The concept is separate from the EU’s Savings and Investments Union, but both developments highlight the accelerating effort by governments and financial institutions to reshape how private capital moves through increasingly integrated financial systems.

Central Banks Prepare for AI Financial Disruption

The transformation is not limited to Europe.

Global central bankers gathering at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Jackson Hole symposium recently confronted another emerging threat to the existing financial order: artificial intelligence.

Princeton University economist Markus Brunnermeier outlined scenarios in which AI-powered trading systems could operate so rapidly that central banks might be forced to fundamentally change how monetary policy is communicated and implemented.

Among the possibilities discussed were central banks becoming deliberately less predictable to prevent AI systems from gaming monetary policy and governments intervening more directly in credit markets to counter machine-driven manipulation.

Taken together, the developments point toward an increasingly centralized and technologically sophisticated financial architecture.

For Europeans, however, the immediate issue is much simpler.

Brussels has identified an enormous pool of private wealth that it believes isn’t being put to sufficient use.

That pool belongs to ordinary households.

And EU leaders have now openly declared that they want to put roughly €10 trillion of those savings “to work” advancing Europe’s investment priorities.

EU’s Pretence of ‘Transition’ Leadership Is an Economic Loser

An Energy Institute report reveals a Europe clinging to the pretence of leading an “energy transition” as the continent declines under the weight of climate policies whose quixotically utopian objectives are negated elsewhere by fossil fuel-supported economic growth.

Data from the 75^th edition of the annual ‘Statistical Review of World Energy‘ will surprise only those ignoring the facts: The world continues to depend massively on fossil fuels [more correctly, hydrocarbon fuels]. Solar and wind technologies, while expanding, still lag ever-rising energy demand, which last year reached a record 600 exajoules. (That’s 600 quintillion joules, where a joule is equal to the work necessary to create one watt of power for one second.)

Of total primary energy consumption, 86% came from fossil fuels – oil at 33.5%; coal, 27.6%; and natural gas, 25.1%. Accounting for just 3% were solar and wind, which are heavily promoted by the European Commission over the much-demonised hydrocarbons.

From 2015-2025, the first decade of the Paris Agreement on climate change, global energy consumption rose more than 14%, with sharply contrasting dynamics. European Union use declined about 1% annually, while consumption in the Asia-Pacific region grew 2.6%.

Europe’s decreasing energy use is no triumph of ecological heroics but rather an outcome of the assault of the EU Green Deal on competitiveness and its predictable deindustrialisation and economic decline. For example, in 2025, growth in gross domestic product for some European countries was close to zero, while the US was 2% under the hydrocarbon-friendly Trump administration. Some coal-burning Asians experienced multiples of that.

Noting this EU tragedy, the European Central Bank’s 2024  report on competitiveness blamed not climate policies directly but instead high energy prices the policies had wrought – a sleight of hand accommodating EU politics.

Meanwhile, the growth of fossil fuels outside the EU continued to outstrip significantly that of solar and wind. Contrary to the Brussels narrative that the gap between so-called renewable technologies and fossil fuels is narrowing, the reality, in absolute terms, is a widening chasm. The EU has indeed integrated renewables into its grid, doing so at the cost of affordability and reliability. However, this leadership remains purely symbolic because the rest of the world is accelerating its use of fossil fuels far faster than that of renewables.

In places like Asia, the expansion of hydrocarbon use concurrently with impressive economic growth was more than coincidental. It was necessary, and China and India led the way.

Early this century, the impetus for Chinese growth was the lesson of the Soviet Union’s collapse, a result of deplorable living standards and a dim outlook for the future. The Chinese Communist Party recognised that growth was needed to maintain its legitimacy and that abundant, cheap energy – mainly coal – would be the critical ingredient.

This prosperity is good news to everybody but those obsessed with carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, the bogeyman of the climate industrial complex. In its drive to cut emissions by 90% by 2040, the EU has reduced emissions by 554 million metric tonnes under the Paris Agreement as the rest of the world increased its own by 3 billion metric tonnes – fivefold in the opposite direction. The European effort is incinerated almost instantly by the combustion of fossil fuels elsewhere to support increased economic activity.

Most damning for 30 years of climate diplomacy is that global industrial emissions have risen by 67% since the adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (“UNFCCC”) in 1992, according to the 2026 ‘Statistical Review of World Energy’. While the EU cut its emissions in that time by about 30%, the effort, achieved at enormous cost and deindustrialisation, has been erased by others’ pursuit of human flourishing.

Compared with previous editions, the language of the latest Energy Institute analysis is markedly more favourable to renewables. One explanation may be the publisher’s collaboration with Ember, a self-identified “energy think tank that aims to accelerate the clean energy transition with data and policy.” The Energy Institute itself seeks “to accelerate a just, secure, and low-carbon energy transition.”

Obviously, our scepticism about the EU’s green agenda is based on the data presented in the report, not on the publishers’ interpretation of it. We sought to contrast the pathetic product of EU energy policy with the promising economic rise of others.

Despite the omnipresent rhetoric of the energy transition, the evidence must be faced: The dominance of fossil fuels in the world energy system persists even as wind and solar, expensive and intermittent, expand. The world is undergoing an energy addition, not a transition, as new technologies supplement the growing capacity of legacy sources.

The great majority of mankind aspires to more prosperity, which requires abundant and cheap energy – what the EU employed before adopting ecological dogma. The clash between climate ambitions and economic aspirations will only intensify.

Last month, French insect farming startup Ÿnsect entered judicial liquidation, marking the end of a company that raised over $600 million despite its ambitions to build insect-based protein at an industrial scale.

The collapse follows years of financial struggles, including an inability to secure sufficient funding, persistent revenue shortfalls and high capital costs associated with its large-scale production facility, YnFarm.

The company, once highlighted by actor Robert Downey Jr. during the 2021 Super Bowl, failed to establish a viable economic model across its target markets of animal feed and pet food.

The trend towards insect-based foods is linked to the UN’s Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”), promoting sustainability and forced behavioural modifications.  They claim the aim is to provide alternative sources of protein to humans and animals’ natural foods, such as beef.

However, as Dr. Meryl Nass pointed out some time ago, “Just because it is protein doesn’t mean it’s good for us.”  And we would add, it’s not good for our pets and farm animals either.

Nass cited parasites that could be spread by insects, difficulties in digesting insects, and common allergies to chitin, commonly found on the exoskeleton of insects.

She suggested that one reason behind the shift to insects as food is “to cause emotional harm: to degrade, debase, downgrade human beings” and that beef is “being demonised,” potentially to “weaken the species.”

So it’s good news for humanity and our animals that Ÿnsect, a French insect farming pioneer that was at one time a flagship for Europe’s climate tech ambitions, has gone bust.

The following is an article published by Press Kit at the end of last month describing the demise of the EU’s flagship insect farming operation.  It seems Ÿnsect was a non-starter rather than a start-up. Although it hasn’t dissuaded smaller insect farmers from forging ahead.  Proponents of insect farming in the UK are viewing it as a problem with large-scale operations before the “technology” is ready and are sure that their “measured, evidence-led” approach will succeed where Ÿnsect has failed.

French Court Declares Europe’s Largest Insect Farming Company Bankrupt

Ÿnsect, Europe’s largest insect production company, was unable to secure the financing it needed to continue operating, despite massive past funding, and was liquidated, declared bankrupt, placed into judicial liquidation – essentially bankruptcy – due to insolvency, and closed down by the court in Évry, 35 km south of Paris.

And revenue was the problem. According to publicly available data, Ÿnsect’s revenue from its parent company peaked at €17,8 million in 2021 (about $21 million), a figure apparently inflated by internal transfers between subsidiaries. By 2023, the company had accumulated a net loss of €79,7 million ($94 million), Tech Crunch reports.

Now, following the court’s decision, the Poulainville factory farm will close permanently.

“The company now has solid technologies and an operating model, although the necessary financing was not secured in time,” says Emmanuel Pinto, President of Ÿnsect, despite the multimillion-dollar project receiving massive EU funding.

It had raised over $600 million, including funds from Downey Jr.’s FootPrint Coalition, taxpayers, and many others. The company also secured a €160 million ($175,5 million) Series D financing round in 2023 with the aim of developing its portfolio and accelerating marketing authorisations for its ingredients in several markets, Global Pet Industry reports.

Additionally, the company has received approximately €170 million in convertible bonds, €150 million in bank debt, and approximately €20 million in public subsidies, including €15 million from the European Union. In the same year, the French company also initiated a rebranding and transferred its ingredient-based product portfolio under the Sprÿng brand.

In 2020, the company announced a further capital increase of €315 million, primarily intended to finance the construction of a factory in Poulainville (Somme department). This facility is designed to become the largest vertical farm in the world.

Another capital increase of €160 million followed in April 2023. Local authorities and policymakers saw the project as a contribution to industrial development and ecological transformation.

The project has received further support from local authorities and policymakers.

It was launched and presented as a start-up symbolising the industrial boom in the insect industry, but within a few months, it turned into one of the most expensive industrial flops of the decade. “Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr. extolled its merits on the “Late Show” during the 2021 Super Bowl weekend, The Epoch Times reports.

Ÿnsect had been struggling for months. The company’s vertical mealworm farm in Dole (55 km from Dijon), which produced 200.000 tons of insect-based ingredients annually, was sold in June, Global Pet Industry reports.

Ÿnsect instead focused on producing insect proteins for animal feed and pet food. In 2021, it expanded its operations and acquired Protifarm, a Dutch company that breeds mealworms for human consumption, adding a third market to the mix. Even when the company announced the deal, then-CEO Antoine Hubert admitted that it would take a couple of years before human food would only account for 10-15% of Ÿnsect’s revenue.

“His proposition was simple: offer an alternative to resource-intensive proteins like fishmeal and soy. This same thesis also attracted significant capital to competitors like Better Origin and Innovafeed, and it looked promising,” Tech Crunch continues.

But the vision collided with market reality. Animal feed is a commodity market driven by price, not sustainability premiums. In a perfect world, insect protein would be completely circular, with insects fed food waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill. But in practice, industrial-scale insect production typically ends up relying on grain byproducts already usable as feed, meaning insect protein simply adds a costly additional step. For animal feed, the calculations simply didn’t add up.

Ÿnsect eventually realised this. Pet food proved to be a different equation: it’s less price-sensitive than animal feed and represents a far better market for insect protein, despite competition from other protein alternatives like lab-grown meat. By 2023, the company had refocused its strategy on pet food and other higher-margin segments, with Hubert citing broader economic pressures.

The Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban has claimed that the EU is shifting its economy to reach full combat readiness within five years.

Speaking at an anti-war rally on Saturday, Orban claimed that the European Union was preparing for war with Russia and aims to be fully ready by 2030. He added that the bloc was already making moves toward a direct military confrontation.

RT reports: He described a four-step process that typically leads to war: breaking off diplomatic relations, imposing sanctions, ending economic cooperation, and finally engaging in armed conflict. He said that most of these steps have already been taken.

“There is the official European Union position that by 2030 it must be ready for war,” he stated.

In late June, the European Union launched a pilot project to test a prototype age verification app in five member states: Denmark, France, Greece, Italy and Spain.  The excuse?  To protect children online.

Additionally, age verification can only be made using Google-approved Android devices or on iPhones, effectively requiring a Google or Apple account.

What this means is: If you are in the European Union and have de-Googled your phone, you will not be able to verify your age.

On Monday, Take Back Our Tech (“TBOT”) published a video with an accompanying article to raise the alarm about an age verification app that the European Commission is trialling in five European countries.

The Commission presents the app as a private solution to age verification. But there’s one catch: they recommend the app use Google attestation, meaning that it won’t work on alternative phones, TBOT warned.

The app will only work on Google phones because it enforces Google attestation, even though it’s less secure.  Everyone in the EU may be forced to use Big Tech phones when using apps integrated with this age verification system.

EU Breaks Its Own Law, Forcing Use of Google for Age Verification

Earlier this month, the European Commission rolled out a new app and framework for age verification.  It’s intended to be used by other apps that require age verification checks.

The EU loves to present privacy as one of its principles. So their system is open-source and attempts to minimise data leakage.

Here’s how it works:

• EU member states can develop on top of this app to create their own age verification apps.
• They publish it to the app stores in their country.
• Other apps on the phone can request age checks.

The requesting party will receive a simple “yes” or “no” answer with little additional information, a design choice aligned with the EU’s design principles.

But there’s one problem. This app requires the Play Integrity API, which is a service run by Google to check whether a phone is running a Google-approved version of Android.  It excludes alternative operating systems like GrapheneOS and other degoogled OS’.

The open-source app was published on GitHub, and developers quickly took note of this section in the README:

The point of note is the Google Play Integrity API, which the EU has indicated will be part of the app.

Originally released in May 2025, any app developer could choose to implement it into their app.  When activated, your phone communicates with Google Play servers, which sends a response back about:

• whether the app is genuine,
• whether it’s installed from the Google Play store, and
• whether the phone is running a licensed Android OS (commercial partnership with Google).

Essentially, it’s a check to see if you’re in Google’s walled garden with a Google Account or one of their partners like Samsung.

If an app chooses to use this API, then de-Googled phone users cannot use it – whatsoever. Therefore, if it’s a requirement for age verification in the EU, then those apps will be unusable for anyone on de-Googled phones.

Daniel Micay, founder of GrapheneOS, also created an issue on the same project with lots of support.

Micay was quick to point out that the Android Hardware Attestation API would be more secure, while cutting out Google’s monopoly.

It’s a hardware-based API which doesn’t need to communicate to an external server. It checks:

• Authenticity/integrity of the hardware
• Authenticity of the operating system to ensure current security updates
• Authenticity of the app

The EU is ignoring a more secure option in favour of one that doesn’t even check if the phone is still receiving security updates.

They are enforcing Google’s monopoly while neglecting security.

Since Google’s Play Integrity API was released, many large companies have started to enforce the checks in their apps. The most common are banking, financial and government apps.  De-Googled phone users have workarounds such as loading the service from their browser or from their computer.

Despite overwhelming support from hundreds of developers requesting to remove the Google Play Integrity API requirement, the EU representative developers brushed it off and said they only created a reference implementation and member states would be able to make their own choices.

Then a few weeks later, they deleted that portion of the README, replacing it with this:

As Micay points out, ironically, another EU regulation – the Digital Market Act (“DMA”) – forbids upholding a monopoly on a foreign technology provider. According to the DMA, this requirement would be illegal.

Conclusion

Developers around the world are in agreement. Get rid of the Google dependency.  They reasoned, provided “better” digital ID solutions, pleaded and cajoled the project, asking other developers to reach out to their EU representatives.

If you know my show, then you know I think that’s not going to work. I reminded everyone on the thread that this is happening everywhere in the world.  Software companies will abide by their investors and financial firms, who are headed by the very same people who attend the annual Davos and Bilderberg meetings.

Everyone who is using, or wants to use a phone detached from Google in the EU is under threat of being cut off from basic services.

We need to start rebuilding the world’s tech services in a way that can’t be controlled or taken over.  Agorism and voluntaryism is the way.
